Mounia Youss is based in the UAE and brings to the team over 15 years of professional experience.
Mounia is a dual qualified lawyer (France and England & Wales) with proven experience in the management of risk, legal, and compliance matters.
Prior to joining Effecta, Mounia provided legal advice on real estate investments, tax optimisation and wealth management for private clients in France, where she trained as a lawyer. After relocation to London, and qualifying as a solicitor, she continued to provide legal advice to firms in the financial services sector with a specific focus on FinTech, Private Equity and Joint Ventures.
In 2018 Mounia moved inhouse to take up the role of legal and compliance officer within a UK FCA regulated firm. With a strong understanding of wealth management and the payments ecosystem, Mounia has since advised and supported FinTechs of various sizes and offerings to navigate the ever-evolving regulatory requirements. Acting both in her capacity as Compliance Officer and Risk Officer and with her strong legal background she has built robust legal, risk and compliance frameworks for start-ups and scale ups. as well as working with more established payment companies where she has lead firms through regulatory remediation projects. Mounia works closely with senior management in firms and has been part of the Executive Committee of a prominent payment services company.
Mounia is a qualified lawyer and holds the Investment Compliance qualification from the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI), as well as a certificate on the enhancement of financial inclusion using a risk-based approach (ACAMS).
Mounia has worked with several regulators including the DFSA, FCA, MAS, CBI, C&ED and FINTRAC. Originally from Morocco, Mounia speaks Arabic, French and English.
